10 Ways To Conquer Quarantine!
I want to start by saying that this article is written from a place of privilege. It is not meant in any way to be insensitive to any particular circumstance but to help inspire you to make the best out of whatever current situation you are in! I hope you come out of this quarantine better than you went in. Here are my thoughts:
1. Get your finances in order
For the first time, there are zero-interest payments on most loans (including student, credit card, and car loans). This allows you to call your lenders and defer payments without future penalties and the best part is your interest is not accruing! You can double up on payments, or pay down interest so when this is all said and done you’re working on principal alone. This is the time to get your budget in order, maximize your savings, start investing, and paying off your debt!
2. Read Your Bible & Check-in w. God
With everything going on it’s so important to stay spiritually sound! There is no time like the present to check-in with God and see what he has to say to you. If you don’t read your bible than everything you consume is someone else’s interpretation. Why not get straight to the source and develop your understanding of the principals of your faith.
3. Reflect, Meditate, Get in Alignment
Self-reflection is necessary for growth. This the perfect time to look at your life and see if you are pleased with where you are at, where you are headed, and who you are as a person. Meditation is a catalyst for reflection and tapping into one's true self and thought. You can use this tool to realign yourself.
4. Start Counseling/ Therapy
If your mental health is suffering, you are struggling emotionally, if you are feeling good but you need someone to talk to, if you are lonely, or you just don’t feel like yourself lately. Seek counseling or therapy. There are several free virtual programs out right now that can help. You are not crazy, and nothing is wrong with you if you need to seek help. Think of therapy as The Gym for your Brain. You need to work out to stay healthy right? Therapy serves the same purpose!
5. Listen to Podcast or an Audio Book
If you’ve never listened to a podcast you are truly missing out on a wealth of information and entertainment. There’s a podcast for everything you can think of! This is an easy and free way to get smart on any topic. Audiobooks have been said to be easier to retain than traditional reading. It’s also great if you are always on the go.
6. Work on Professional Development
Linda online is now apart of LinkedIn, Udemy, Shareskill, Financial Peace University ( Currently Offering Free 14-day trial), and Cousera are all resources for professional development and skill-building. Most platforms offer some free courses as well.
7. Marie Kondo Your Home
Tackle any DIY projects in your house, clean out your drawers, organize your files, deep clean, clean out your wardrobe and donate/ sell your clothes. You can hit the container store or amazon and organizer your pantry, fridge, and linen closet. This is the perfect time to redecorate or work on your Feng Shui.
8. Deepen your relationships
Have your been meaning to catch up with your old college roommate? Did one of your friends have a baby? How long has it been since you talked to your cousins, grandparents or aunts and uncles? Has something been bothering you that you need to address with someone? Are there some friends or family members that you need to cut off? This is the time to promote, hire, and fire people out of your life. Have the talk, address any rifts, check on people, and love on them extra hard.
9. Start your passion project or business
What idea has been in the back of your mind for years? How can you monetize your talents? Do some business research and establish your next stream of income. Look into local laws and what you need to get your project off the ground. This is your time to capitalize on your dreams!
10. Declutter your digital files
Go through all your email inboxes and delete old emails, create folders and organize important emails by category, and unsubscribe to emails you no longer read. Clean out the photos on your phone and laptop; delete, categorize and save as needed. Delete files off your desktop and documents list, organize any cloud storage you may have as well.
I hope this list serves you. I hope you are staying safe! I hope you are mentally strong and staying sane. I hope you are keeping in touch with family and friends. Check-in on them rebuild and repair, or deepen the relationship. This is not the time to hold back or just chill. It’s time to evaluate your life, relationships, and career. God has given us the gift of time, use it wisely.
XOXO,
KVT
